Coal Creek Farm
Coal Creek Farm is 5,200 acres located atop the Cumberland Plateau in east/central Tennessee. It is a working cattle ranch managed for environmental preservation and sustainability. The Coal Creek management strategy balances the use and protection of resources.
The farm uses the most cost-effective ways of preserving environmental value while boosting economic vitality. Cattle and non-timber forest product development will allow us to preserve the extensive mature forests while cultivating medicinal and edible plants for revenue.
Coal Creek Farm is named for Coal Creek, one of the area’s most scenic and well-preserved streams. Coal, Whites and Alloway Creeks all originate on the farm. The highest points on the farm are Brown Mountain (2510 feet) and Bear Den Mountain (2930 feet).
The weather can be cool and rainy in the summer and blustery in the winter. Even so, summers are quite pleasant, with nighttime temperatures usually in the mid-60s and a constant breeze cooling the days, which are in the mid 80’s. These factors, along with the farm’s average elevation of around 2300 feet, shorten the growing season to around 200 days a year.
